The annual Barberton XCM Mountain Bike Challenge takes place on 25 January 2020 and this year marks its 25th anniversary. It has a reputation as one of the toughest mountain bike races in South Africa. It is also renowned as a scenic trail. Approximately 15 km traverses the south-western section of Mountainlands Nature Reserve.
The race is open to cyclists of all ages and consists of five routes – a 20 km fun ride or 30km, 50km, 77km and 110km marathon rides. For those who need some additional power to conquer the hills e-bikes will be allowed on the 30km and 50km races.
All the races will start and end at the Barberton High School sports fields. Pre-entries close on 21 January and late registration commences on Friday afternoon, 24 January. The race is organised by the Rotary club of Barberton and all the proceeds will be donated to charity.
