It is guineafowl weather on Mountainlands Nature Reserve. The rain drops remind one of the little spots on the feathers of these birds that can sometimes be seen running down the tracks before scattering into the grass. Having been blessed with gentle rain for nearly a week now, the water is soaked into the earth with little run-off and the stream levels are rising. The grass is emerald green. It will not be long now before the impala ewes will lamb. The water berries will be ripe within the next few weeks and some plants will flower more prolifically than when it has been drier. It is truly a special time on the reserve with new life visible everywhere.
